Hi!
I've tried to import my Cider Morrowind save files to OpenMW with openmw-essimporter, but I've got this errors:

Code: Select all

$ openmw-essimporter original-saves/default0000.ess saves/default0000.omwsave
unknown record REGN (0x1297b)
unknown record SPLM (0x1abfb7)
I'm using Mac OS X 10.11.1 with OpenMW 0.36.1.
Here's my main save file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/u8nqonmepi7e9 ... 0.ess?dl=0
Could anyone please help?
(sorry for my english, it's not my native language)

That's not an error, it's just a portion of the save file that's not recognized yet. Does the converted save work?

I can't load any save inside OpenMW, there's no such option in main menu. Save files are in place though:

Code: Select all

$ ls saves
default0000.omwsave quicksave.omwsave
Also, I noticed that bunch of *.tga files was generated during import, but they are outside 'saves' dir:

Code: Select all

$ ls
data/ fog_-2_-1.tga fog_-3_-7.tga fog_-8_3.tga fog_1_-3.tga
original-saves/ fog_-2_-2.tga fog_-3_-8.tga fog_-8_4.tga fog_1_2.tga
projects/ fog_-2_-3.tga fog_-3_3.tga fog_-8_5.tga fog_1_3.tga
saves/ fog_-2_-5.tga fog_-4_-2.tga fog_0_-1.tga fog_1_4.tga
fog_-1_-1.tga fog_-2_-6.tga fog_-4_-3.tga fog_0_-2.tga fog_2_4.tga
fog_-1_-2.tga fog_-2_-7.tga fog_-4_-4.tga fog_0_-3.tga fog_3_-10.tga
fog_-1_-3.tga fog_-2_-8.tga fog_-4_-7.tga fog_0_-4.tga fog_3_-11.tga
fog_-1_-4.tga fog_-2_-9.tga fog_-4_3.tga fog_0_-7.tga fog_3_-12.tga
fog_-1_-5.tga fog_-2_0.tga fog_-4_4.tga fog_0_-8.tga fog_3_-13.tga
fog_-1_-6.tga fog_-2_1.tga fog_-5_4.tga fog_0_-9.tga fog_3_-9.tga
fog_-1_-7.tga fog_-2_2.tga fog_-6_4.tga fog_0_0.tga fog_4_-10.tga
fog_-1_-8.tga fog_-2_3.tga fog_-6_5.tga fog_0_1.tga fog_4_-11.tga
fog_-1_-9.tga fog_-3_-1.tga fog_-7_3.tga fog_0_2.tga fog_4_-12.tga
fog_-1_0.tga fog_-3_-2.tga fog_-7_4.tga fog_1_-1.tga fog_4_-13.tga

OMG, I've nailed it... It turns out OpenMW stores each character saves in different directory in 'saves', so all I had to do was create directory with my character name (not sure if that was necessary to use exact name) and move *.omwsave and *.tga files to that directory (not sure if *.tga files are used though). Works like a charm now! Thank you, scrawl!

UPD
My journal is empty now (I guess, that's because original save wasn't in english), and all the mages in Balmora are dead. I don't think it's plot twist :( I guess I would have to start anew...

When I try to import my save file, I get the following output:

Code: Select all

openmw-essimporter -m 510000.ess -o output1.omwsave
Loading config file: /home/user/.config/openmw/openmw.cfg... done.
Loading config file: ./openmw.cfg... done.
Loading config file: /etc/openmw/openmw.cfg... done.
unknown record REGN (0x159c6)
unknown record CONT (0x24ce3)
Error: ESM Error: Unknown subrecord
  File: 510000.ess
  Record: CREA
  Subrecord: INDX
  Offset: 0x466d2
I have attached the save that causes this issue.

Hello!

I never had a chance to play Morrowind in the past and found a copy of the game in a thrift store, and now I'm totally digging it! The game is wonderful, but I'm tired of launching it through PlayOnLinux, so I installed OpenMW. I tried the ESS importer but, unfortunately, my attempts to convert my ess saved games came up with these negative results:

Code: Select all

leto@Oasis:~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/TES3_Morrowind/drive_c/Program Files/Bethesda Softworks/Morrowind/Saves$ openmw-essimporter Melchior0000.ess test.omwsave
Loading config file: /home/leto/.config/openmw/openmw.cfg... done.
Loading config file: /etc/openmw/openmw.cfg... done.
unknown record REGN (0x119df)
Error: ESM Error: Unknown subrecord
  File: Melchior0000.ess
  Record: CREA
  Subrecord: INDX
  Offset: 0x1f2d3
I attached my saved game to this post. I hope it's helpful. I would be thrilled to be able to play my character on OpenMW!

I don't see this issue, which version are you using? I get some errors, but the coverter does not crash

Using a really old version:

Using a relatively new one:

I don't see issues with this one, either:

Hi there,

I have the same problems as sanchezman. I am using Linux Mint (i.e. Ubuntu). Are you testing with a different version and also on a different operating system?

I'm on windows x64, a couple of versions behind the current master, if that makes any difference (I don't think the essimporter has changed much lately)
