Help running on Mac via Winery/Wineskin

Post by ItsaZoo »

Hello forum!

I'm a semi-mac literate user trying to play via winery/wineskin. I followed some reddit directions and installed steam in a wrapper and that worked great. Then I installed Morrowind through steam and that worked great. Then I tried to install OpenMW in a wrapper and there I ran into difficulties. The game loads and the opening audio/video is fine. When it drops me in the game, the audio works and the markers are there, but the rest of the graphics are fubar. Any (very specific- as I'm a winery newbie) directions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks all!!!

Is there a reason you are using Winery instead of the native Mac client? I believe you do need something like Wine in order to acquire the Morrowind files for OpenMW to work, but you want to use the native clients after that on Mac and Linux because they are more performant/reliable.

Since MW won't play on Mac without a workaround, I don't know what other choice I have. More info please.

You've tried installing the .dmg file here? https://github.com/OpenMW/openmw/releases

You don't need Winery to run OpenMW on Mac, only to install the original game off of Steam so you can get the files that you need to use OpenMW. From my understanding the Mac client works fine right now, although you might know something I don't. I will admit I am not a Mac user so hopefully one can come in and help out if the native client isn't working for you.

I had not tried that. I'll check it out.
When you download the game through Steam, you don't get all the game files, so we'll see what happens!

I downloaded and installed the OpenMW dmg and the game will play, however I don't have any access to the servers. Also, I have to uncheck Bloodmoon to get it to play.

I'm missing a step somewhere, but I can't figure it out. I really need fellow Mac users to chime in!

OpenMW runs natively on Mac, and if suddenly it doesn't, then this is a bug and should be reported. It is not solved by running Windows binaries via winery.

Edit: I was too slow.

Edit 2: too slow again. Capostrophic said what I was going to say.

1. Place Bloodmoon beneath Tribunal in the load order.
2. OpenMW doesn't include any multiplayer functionality. TES3MP doesn't have macOS builds, because neither of the two developers have a Mac.

So this (from my better half's PC) is not an option for me on a Mac?
