Sorry for late reply. I've got some medical stuff going on keeping me a bit busy and slow.

Yes, I did compile it all anew. And I redid it again after your comment just in case.

The AUR bug has been updated. According to them, the new package for OpenSceneGraph that was released few days ago should fix the ongoing issues with OpenMW from AUR. And after updating, indeed, I get pop-ups with error messages when things go wrong, just like after downgrading OpenSceneGraph (which is something that did not work on previous most up-to-date version, so I guess that compatibility thing is fixed). But my actual issue still persist. Game works perfect, until I mesh-changing mods (at least, that's the only corrolastion I found so far. It goes wrong on both loose mesh files you drop in data folder as files with .esp files, but for example the faster running mod does work with .esp file). So far, interface mods (high res main menu screen, better body almalexia loading screen, etc) seem to work fine as well. Ground texture overhauls also haven't been an issue yet either. But I at least want to have some better looking faces and bodies, if possible, clothes and armours, but even mesh-only files I can drop in data folder without esp won't work (on clean install).

I'm still wondering, if OpenSceneGraph is the problem, why does my game work perfect without these mods? I've tried multiple mods that others confirmed working, but as soon as I add any like described above it crashes, yet I get trough smoothly without mods. At least as far as I tested. It crashed during the character creation/tutorial process, and without mods I trough it without issues and I've been able to walk around and talk to a few people, finish that ring quest, go sell stuff, etc.

I had quickly loaded a save game I made without mods after finishing that part, and although I haven't tested much, it seemed to work fine. But you know, it is nice to know what face I'm choosing while choosing it, and I can't see that if I need to add it afterwards. Beside, I assume the tutorial should also work?

Newest crashlog returns this:

Do you have a list of all the mods hat cause this? I mean, could we download this mod and only this mod, and have it crash reproducibly?

I had made a list with links I downloaded from in the very first original topic I made. I haven't been able to test all of them with the new package (only tried better bodies, which gave above crash log), but since the issue seems more mod related as it did happen on the older (acourding to you guys working) OpenSceneGraph too I don't think much has changed.

As you see, I tried pretty much any decent quality body and face mod available 😂

I am also on Arch and use the AUR package to compile right out of the repo. I have not played or tested openmw in two months or more, but never had any problems with better bodies, better heads, better clothes, etc. much less any crashes.

Just a heads-up. There has been another update on the AUR package, now changing a dependency of OpenMW back to a OpenSceneGraph 3.4 version (which is also properly added as a community package unlike before where it was a AUR package that wouldn't install normally, although it'll still replace OpenSceneGraph. It won't be installed along it like on your Debian). I haven't checked the full list (again), but I got trough the tutorial part flawlessly with better bodies. I think the issue with Arch might be fixed.

Funny enough, it says the last update was on November 25, and I updated November 27 while not having this new dependency. Not sure how that works, nor do I get why downgrading didn't work for me. But ah well, gaming is a secondary thing for me on this pc and like I said, I was having medical issues to worry about, so I so I didn't look as well into it as some other things. Maybe I just missed it. It seems fixed now, and I'm happy.

Just a heads up, because I'm getting PMs and questions on Discord, I do not have any control of non Debian/Ubuntu packages. :) I do not have any experience with Arch nor know how it all works. I'm not the goto guy for that. :)

I wish there was a 'goto' guy or girl that could speak up for OpenMW (and libs) in Arch. So... raise your hand please, if you're interested. :)

As an Arch user the situation is, as far as I understand it, as follows:

1. If you go with the official package that tracks the stable release (currently 0.44) you should have no problems. And any problems that do crop up, are usually solved quickly. Just issue a bug on the bug tracker if no one has bothered to do so.

2. If on the other hand, you want to go with the AUR package that tracks directly the development version of the official repos (because say, there is a bug fix or a new feature you cannot live without), then you must either bug the maintainer of the AUR package or have the technical savvy to parse the PKGBUILD build file and know what is happening behind the scenes to solve any problems. Unfortunately, I am not that guy and the most important bugs that I wished solved are solved by 0.45, so next time I play openmw I will most likely go back to the stable version.

The maintainer of the community package does seem active in maintaining it. Like lambda said, bugs could be submitted to them and it'll be fixed or at least looked at within a reasonable time frame. If you can't wait people might try some workarounds, but they do seem to fix issues relatively quickly. I don't know if the maintainer is on this forum as well, I guess not but if you wish you could check the maintainer here.

As for the git version, I guess that one is a bit more complex. The maintainer did comment a few days ago so I guess it's still actively looked after. For bugs with those packages one could go to the AUR.

As for a goto person here, or just someone who can do more than check on bugs with the packages, I still have to learn a lot about Arch, despite two years of use. Nor do I have the time between study and work. I don't think I'll be suited for such responsibility. I hope you can find someone. When I had to use Debian some time ago there was so much different I had to look much up again. It's understandable you can't always help, and I wouldn't expect a person to go learn about multiple distro's. Good luck finding an arch goto guy!

But they don't support with overall issues do they? Only with issues with these specific packages. For bugs with those you could ask them, but if it's not a bug but simply not knowing how to do stuff, I'm not sure asking the maintainers of the package is the right place to ask? I think psi92a wants a goto person for all people using arch asking questions here that require some OS knowledge of any kind here.

Unrelated, but right now I'm debating if I have the time to go find out how to get the nightly version running so I can use the mod to show sheathed weapons, or if I'm gonna be happy that it finally works and spend my little free time on actually playing. Especially for an aesthetic nice mod, that doesn't do much for gameplay otherwise, I'm a bit unsure if I feel it's worth it. But MWSE-like support won't be on OpenMW soon either if I understand correctly.

My plate is full, but if anyone else wants to get the attention of the maintainer in order to work closer with us, feel free to ping them. :)
