Half of the posts that get through the captcha are still trying to sell counterfeit viagra, so that's why we have a manual moderation queue. It's there for everyone, not just TOR users. The captcha itself isn't as effective as we'd like, and I don't have figures for how much it stops, but it's at least stopping something.

There's no silver bullet for mitigating spam, and once GPT2-based spambots start popping up, there'll be no bullets left any more.

Believe me, we would *love* to get rid of captcha and post approval moderation. But if we got rid of that, we would also get rid of all our users since we'd basically become a marketplace for viagra.

A few years back (on the old forum) I had to remove tones of spam from each day. Not a great time and it got only worse.
