Back in January people were talking about how these exercises for pandemics are being carried out, particularly the Bill Gates pandemic exercise comes to mind. You can view it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vm1-DnxRiPM

The virus in that exercise is very similar to the current one btw. We were sort of overdue for a virus like this so I guess they were expecting it to happen somewhere in the future.
