Hex Editor Recommendations

Hey all, I was messing around with a hex editor the other day trying to edit some game files for a game called Liberal Crime Squad (an Ascii game made by the developer of Dwarf Fortress) and so I needed a good hex editor.

What I stumbled across as a temporary favorite was wxHexEditor (link here).

What drew me to this one was that it was small and portable (only 1 file with no installation needed!). It was Free and Open Source (FOSS) which is somewhat ideologically nifty. And lastly it was easy to use.

Does anyone else have any hex editors that they use and would recommend? Searching the internet only spams with a myriad of shareware and half-freeware. Cross compatibility is a really nice feature that most of these editors lack since I sometimes go back and forth between windows and linux.
