What linux do you use?

Not about OpenMW? Just about Morrowind in general? Have some random babble? Kindly direct it here.

What linux do you use?

Post by ezzetabi »

I am getting the feeling that Archlinux is very popular in this forum.
So just for curiosity I am asking explicitly, what favour of linux do you use?

This post is NOT meant as an OS war, if you do not use/like/stand linux there is no need to answer.

I also use Archlinux (64 bit).

Arch 64bit, because I am willing to pay for a bit of stability to have the latest packages.

Xubuntu x64 for my desktop, debian x64 for my laptop, debian x64/32 for my servers.
But I used Gentoo/ArchLinux during a long period.

(With only free softwares inside)

Ubuntu for a number of reasons:
  • Most packages are stable, if I need something more up to date I can usually add a ppa.
  • Most guides/troubleshooting on the web is for Ubuntu.
  • If I ever need a piece of proprietary software, it's usually packaged as a deb. Ubuntu is the first assumption by any developer targeting desktop Linux.
  • I'm too lazy right now to check if another distro would work better.
If I was ever feeling adventurous I would probably try Arch or Gentoo.

simpleMepis (debian stable) 64 bit on desktop, pclinuxos with KDE on netbook.

Both works out of box, and are VERY stable. Stability is crucial to me.

My laptop runs Sabayon (x64) and my "server" (Old computer really) runs Gentoo (i686).

I like spending some time setting up a minimal kernel, makes it feel so much more personalized.

I run Xubuntu on everything. XFCE fo lyfe! I would run Arch if it wasn't such a pain.
