I think it is generally a bad idea to mess with money considering how perilously close the project itself is to IP and Copyright issues. While the project itself is legal, the last thing needed is the ire of Bethesda.

Because "ire" is an English word (and a French one by the way !) : it means "the anger".
"Irae" is the Latin word.

There is a very simple way of dealing with Google paying the project money. Refuse to accept it or ask Google to donate it to a charity of their choice.
I don't view there being any problem with Google paying a Student to work on the project (doesn't mean that there isn't one)
