Morrowind May Modathon Month 2018

Post by NullCascade »

After talking to psi some he suggested I post this here: Morrowind May Modathon Month 2018 - Celebrating 16 Years of Morrowind!

Twice a year the Morrowind community has modding competitions. The Morrowind May Modathon is a celebration of Morrowind's birthday, where modders come together to collaborate and compete:
In the early days of May 2002, a little game came out called The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. It would go on to save Bethesda Softworks from bankruptcy, sell millions of copies, and become the most popular game for modding at the turn of the century. Now, 16 years later, over 23,000 mods have been released for Morrowind between Morrowind Nexus and Morrowind Modding History and the modding community is still going strong, with over 600 mods released last year alone.

In order to celebrate the 16th Anniversary of Morrowind, we're doing something special, we're holding a May Modathon Month! Throughout the entire month of May, participating modders on the Nexus , The Assimilation Lab and GHF who submit Morrowind mods could get a chance to win indie or AAA games each week. Likewise, all participating mods will be entered to win the Mod of the Month Award, with a ton of games as a prize.

Not only that, but all winners will get trailers, special showcases, and numerous video features on Morrowind Modding Showcases. And the winner of the Mod of the Month award will naturally get featured in our Mod of the Month series, celebrating the best mods released for Morrowind each month. Not only that, but this year we're also handing out achievements, little badges that you can unlock and plug into your mod download pages!
This year 88 mods were released in total for the competition, making it the most successful modding competition for any Elder Scrolls game, not just Morrowind.

There were two openmw/tes3mp-specific mods released this competition, NectarineGriefer's Recursive Cliff Racers for TES3MP and Halbenull's CHIM - Movement and Stamina.

You can watch video coverage of the modathon in a playlist here. It features some general chatter, as well as random weekly drawing winners to provide a sample of what people have been up to. The reddit thread has a complete list. Winners should get announced this weekend.

Achievements and medals
Feels like a bingo trophy ceremony with Saul Goodman in a nursing home.

Jokes aside, those competition are nice initiatives to keep authors running

(a tiny bit of data to bring some perspective)

Perspective on what, exactly? What do those stats have to do with anything?

a perspective on the activity of the mod scene compared to the audience of a few channels.

88 mods in a single month of competition is not bad considering the numbers.
Morrowind is such an old lady after all.

Thank you for your condescending and confusing perspective.

?
oh sorry it was not intended.

I gathered those few numbers to give an idea of the following.
Communities emerge, grow and inevitably decay over time.
So to see an initiative like this, 16 years after launch, giving birth to more mods in a month than new PRs on the repo here, well, it's beautiful :D

A few of us on Discord coordinated to test a good chunk of the mods and add them to the OpenMW wiki’s mod compatibility page. Most of them work without issue.

I misread then. I'm sorry.

Of note, since MWSE compatibility is a hot topic right now, 17 of the 88 mods released require MWSE. That's about ~20% of the mods that OpenMW at present has no plans for being compatible with.

Not necessarily no plans. I'm pretty sure we're hoping to have either an automated converter built into the CS, or to have one as an optional plugin to the CS.
