Robert Osfield Announces First Steps Towards VulkanSceneGraph

Not about OpenMW? Just about Morrowind in general? Have some random babble? Kindly direct it here.

This is great stuff and should be fun to play with, however... how this will apply to OpenMW is still up in the air.

OSG is mature and we want OpenMW to run as many platforms as possible. There are going to be platforms, at least for now, where Vulkan is not an option but that will change with time. VSG is not a drop-in replacement either and I am very much against dropping OpenGL support. So it would be an additional effort to have OpenMW support both OSG and VSG.

In the short term, I don't see OpenMW touching VSG. However... if someone wants to spend time doing so, feel free and fork away. :)

I think there is enough work in OpenMW itself that can yield better performance and our 3rd party libraries are not necessarily the bottleneck here, but just how we use them.

One of the most exciting things about VSG is that it's going to be something like OSG, but it won't be full of annoying legacy stuff for at least a few years.

I agree with you! And the new vsgXchange library seemed amazing to me!
