The plan is to make distribution that used to be ubuntu: preconfigured debian with 6 months reales cycle. I recomend to read the blog.
tanglu, new good old ubuntu?
Re: tanglu, new good old ubuntu?
I don't get it. Why not just use Debian. I'm pretty sure there's debian installers that come with a preconfigured desktop? Or like, you can just select a desktop environment at install-time?

Well, you can just instal mepis and upgrade to testing.
But the point is that debian testing has problems. That's why ubuntu became so popular.

Arch linux is not a good old ubuntu
Re: tanglu, new good old ubuntu?
Chakra! Half-rolling release scheme, just like the guy is talking about in the blog post.

Chakra is not stable enough. Also: it requires manual configuration. Still not a new good old ubuntu.

Ubuntu lost me when they switched to Unity. Didn't like it a bit. Have found that Linux Mint Cinnamon is very quick to load things and that is what I'm playing Morrowind on now.

Inside info from ubuntu: ubuntu is considering moving to entirely rolling releases with the exception of LTS. No more 6 month cadence. Raring was almost made the first "rolling" release, and would have skipped releasing it all together. There were enough objections from the community to prevent raring from becoming a rolling release, but i would not be surprised if it is the last non-LTS release.
