This is interesting. Because IIRC our weather system is based on cells, it would look weird if we displayed blight all the time in the Red Mountain cells. From certain angles your weather would look cellular. So if the cells around the Red Mountain had higher densities of fog, maybe the affect / appearance wouldn't look that bad.
