I personally consider this part of the Vanilla experience, considering so many games available (on Steam or whatever) have built in controller support and Morrowind 'was' available on a console on its release. But I don't expect Zini or Scrawl to agree with the necessity this puts on controller support.

I do, however, think it will help moving forward with post-1.0 UI improvements if we have a pre-1.0 implementation just so that when the UI does grow later people know what to change in order to continue to support controllers.

Here is a video of a new game, including the on-screen keyboard (0:54 seconds), character creation, map use, inventory use, pop-up dialogues, and generally every controller action (especially those concerning the UI) available in the Xbox version of the game:

I also intend to find an already online pdf of the XBOX Morrowind Manual. If I can't find one by a reasonable amount of time, I will create one from my own XBOX Manual.

Anyway, I think playing Morrowind with the Xbox controller was always a superior experience for me. I hope we can get a push for it to be worked on.

Edit: I added a Feature to the bug-tracker for this: Whether this gets looked at pre-1.0 is up to someone finding the energy to tackle it.

If it does get implemented it could be pretty good PR as an example of something the Vanilla engine isn't capable of and only is possible with OpenMW.

I tried googling to see if the xbox manual is available online, but only found the PC version, even in Bethesda site (, only the PC version appears. Does it even exists?
I could upload a scanned PDF of my Xbox Morrowind manual. And if you needed, I could write a description of its mechanics.
