How would you see a compass being displayed? An item that you can look at in your inventory? A strip across the screen?

Bear in mind too how it could keep the mystique of Morrowind where quests don't give markers for a very good reason compared to how Skyrim feeds you everything.

Well the minimap can be used as a compass, right?

Maybe he means like Daggerfall, where the compass only shows the NWSE orientation (and it could be a strip not too unlike Skyrim, or an oriented pointer not too unlike Morrowind), and nothing else (no minimap or PoIs).

Yep. The minimap shows quite well how the player is facing in regards to North/East/South/West, so a compass would be redundant.

Another possible compass is a 4 point star floating model in the bottom of the screen with the red point always pointing to the North.
