Hey Pineapple!

Welcome to the forums! We could certainly use your help.

Yes, C++ can be a challenging language and understanding OpenMW's engine code will take some time, it can also be very rewarding :D

But all is not lost, you can defiantly help us out by testing the game and reporting bugs/areas we can improve.

We also have various wiki pages that need to be maintained, an OpenMW-CS guide that needs work, and there's always room for more PR!

Let us know if you need some direction.

Cheers

Jyby

I'm sorry that no one has answered your post! You fell through the cracks and that isn't good! We can use your help on OpenMW-CS (Qt) if you're up to the task! :)

Welcome aboard!

pineapple wrote:Hey Jyby and psi. The process for setting up the dev environment made me remember why I don't write C++. I've been meaning to give it another look, but I'm not optimistic.

I really want to contribute, but not if the barrier to entry is so high. I doubt I'm the only one who wanted to help and promptly fled in terror. Perhaps you could find a way to simplify setting up the dev environment? Vagrant, for example, is a blessed resource. Not just for those who're new to the project, but also to keep things consistent between different developers.
I've been wanting to improve the dev setup process but I just haven't had the time...

Start with this wiki page: https://wiki.openmw.org/index.php?title ... ment_Setup

If you find any gaps let us know!

Apologies, I meant so late! I wouldn't have seen it myself had you not said something first! :)

However you did call it OpenCS and not OpenMW-CS, tsk tsk. :P

btw. this posting is in the wrong forum section, which is probably why it got lost. Maybe a mod could move it to New Developers Applications?

Then what is "Join the team" about?

Should the two sections be merged?

* New Developer Applications: This is meant for people involved with the code in one way or another.
* Join the team: This is meant for people who do not work with the code (explicitly stated in the forum description).

Maybe we could optimise the wording a bit, but normally people don't have a problem with it. As far as I remember there have been no more than 3-4 cases where a posting ended up in the wrong forum. And I suppose that is more an oversight than a failure to comprehend what the forums are for.
