Hey all,

GSOC 2018 starts in January. Why not try and get a student to work on a long-standing area of development for the editor. It might help speed things up. I doubt Bethesda would care if they worked on the game engine, but they'd probably be even less concerned if it was limited to the editor. Other reimplementation projects have used GSOC in the past.
Here's a link to GSOC https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/timeline

That sounds like a great idea! I know that ScummVM (an open source reimplementation of the engine used for LucasArts adventure games…and now a ton of other stuff) has been part of Google Summer of Code in multiple years and benefitted from it. Having someone focused on OpenMW-CS would really help the project.

Do you know how the OpenMW program would apply for this?

Here is more information about how GSOC works for mentors. I'm not sure if anyone has the availability to do the mentoring.
Though on the bugtracker Zini and others have often already provided rough outlines for different features. I bet students would be interested in the project.
