OpenMW 0.41.0

Most of what I meant to write here I already posted in the 1.0 roundtable thread. Nothing more to say about OpenMW itself. So this will be a short one.

As some of you might have noticed I gave back the task I claimed last month. This makes 0.40.0 the first release without a code contribution from me. Kinda sad. RL issues have stopped me for a while from active contribution (beyond managing things and giving advice) and unfortunately that will continue for a bit longer. The reason for my inactivity Its actually something really good (unrelated to OpenMW obviously) but I can't talk about it yet. Probably later this year.
I'll try to pick up a few small tasks along the way. But no promises.

Luckily we have Aesylwinn to pick up the slack. OpenMW-CS is still making great progress and I expect it will continue to do so in 0.41.0.

I don't expect the next release to become 1.0, but should it happen, we can do an OpenMW 1.0 release accompanied by an OpenMW-CS 0.41.0 release (sorry in advance to all the people working on the release process for the additional hassle).

Involving a certain total conversion mod? :)

More than great progress. Although we don't have every feature yet, with the additions already made in 0.41 I feel like the tipping point of it being preferrable to vanilla CS is very close.

Haha, my first thought also.

EDIT: But not my second. Didn't notice the "(unrelated to OpenMW obviously)" at first. Unrelated to OpenMW = Unrelated to Ultima TC I'd say.

Oh man, don't say stuff like that, people are going to take that completely out of context.

Just some planning from the video guy's perspective:

We (i.e., mostly MiroslavR and Allofich) have already solved more than 60 issues for this release, including several OpenMW features and a few OpenMW-CS features, which would be more than enough for a minor release, at least on OpenMW's side. I don't know what your plans regarding a release are but I'd, however, prefer a release date in December-- maybe even shortly before Christmas.

This is because of the FAQ videos. They turned out to be an even bigger project than I had thought, and I'm currently working on some extras to further improve their quality and information content. That said, it will take me several weeks to finish my work (don't pin me down on it but I'd say 3 to 4 weeks) which will prevent me from producing release commentaries. -- Anyway, if you like to release 0.41.0 earlier, I'd now be able to ultimately swap video priority and produce the release commentaries first. But I'd need the decision within the next week in order to do so.

So, especially Zini, scrawl, Allofich, and MiroslavR, what do you think? An early 0.41 release? Or a somehow delayed one?

Does the distant land feature fall under "distant statics"?

On scrawl's trello distant terrain and distant statics are differentiated.
