Forum reorganization

Post by psi29a »

Just a heads up, the forum has been reorganized.

Over the last few years OpenMW has evolved and the ecosystem around OpenMW has also grown and become more vibrant. To help encourage this growth, we've consolidated a few sub-forums and created new one and merged a few in between. :)

Here is the new layout:
Main
  • General
  • Support
  • Feature Requests and Suggestions
  • Join the Team
  • Off Topic
Development
  • Organisation and Planning
  • Development
  • Editor Development
  • Documentation
Content
  • Example Suite
  • Mod Compatibility
  • Content Development
Other Projects
  • TES3MP
  • Infrastructure
  • Other Forks & Ports
Archive
  • (kept as-is)
We tried to keep things logically organized, but feedback is always welcome. We had sub-forums in sub-forums but almost no posts in them for years so we just folded those inward to keep things more 'flat'. If there is ever a need (more activity in those areas) then we can always split it back out again.

The big deal is our Other Projects... Since TES3MP is OpenMW's future, it is officially supported by the OpenMW team and not just someone's 'fork', it gets its own area, as other forks and ports emerge and gain traction in 'Other Forks & Ports', we can do the same thing for them as well. We want to encourage this so that people who want to move fast and break things are encouraged to post their forks there to get quick feedback from OpenMW dev team and those following along and want to test.

Content development is another area we wish to encourage and we've had a fair bit of people interested in helping. It can be OpenMW specific or compatible with both OpenMW and Morrowind, from just assets and also mods. We encourage people to test mods and help OpenMW devs to track down issues. Mod-compatibility is important to us but we need YOUR help in pointing out the issues and what better way then on the forums here. :)

As I said... all feedback is welcome. We want to improve the experience for everyone so that it is easier to navigate, search and ask questions.

Cheers!

The Example Suite section has several sub-sub-forums. Is that necessary? It seems that most of them are old or unused.
  • Mod and Game Development
    • Example Suite
      • News (9 topics, last one 07 Sept 2017)
      • General Discussion (45 topics, last one 18 Sept 2018)
      • Showcase (1 topic, last one 02 Mar 2016)
      • Concept Art (no topics)
      • Sound & Music (4 topics, last one 05 Sept 2016)
      • Models & Textures (7 topics, last one 10 June 2018)
Can we collapse this into one Example Suite sub-forum with 66 topics? Having six sub-sub-forums seems a bit excessive.

I wasn't quite sure about that... but I don't see why not.

@DestinedToDie: what are your thoughts?

I would collapse it into one, as suggested.
