2018

New year, new thread. I would say I don't want to jinx it, if I were to believe in this kind of nonsense. But I don't and therefore I can say it openly: I think 2018 will be the year of the OpenMW 1.0 release.

I am still on track with my work on the post 1.0 concept. I should be ready to release it sometimes in spring. Of course we can't start to work on that, because even if OpenMW 1.0 is ready, OpenMW-CS definitely won't. But we will still be able to begin discussing the post 1.0 plans.

Happy new year and happy coding, everyone.

Hooray! I am looking forward to post-1.0, as that is when all of the cool features can get added, and crazier feature requests will be taken

It be totaly nice! Finnaly be all that things with optimisation and launcher I wait (and I think a lot people wait it) :D
However, development was not so fast last months, as I seen. And there still a lot issues in roadmap.

This is exceptionally exciting! We all eagerly await the post-1.0 concept plan! Guess I better get off my ass and start helping with documentation again.

What you guys should do, is have someone make posts on Tamriel Rebuilt and Project Tamriel's forums asking what features they would want from OpenMW post-1.0.

Wouldn't participating in GSOC 2018 for OpenMW-CS probably speed up development?

I don't think we have the capacity to do that properly (mentors and all). Besides these kind of things need to be prepared properly and since GSoC 2018 is already in sign-up phase that is definitely not an option for us.

Yeah, I hear that. I wish a couple of guys could join the main crew long-term developers and leaders who had the time to support a GSOC student. I know SuperTuxKart has used GSOC several times to make necessary leaps in their project. I wonder what kind of a time commitment mentoring is? GSOC is a great mutually beneficial thing and some moderate to major features could get knocked out. Then in subsequent years GSOC people could work on either post 1.0 stuff, refactoring, or massive bug fixing bounty hunters. It's an available resource that is offered annually that the project could take part in down the road if it fits.

Long live OpenMW! Thanks to all the veteran project leads and developers and also to the newer developers. I read the bug tracker activity log like some people read the paper. You guys are all rockstars in my mind. Happy 2018!
