I've recently upgraded to Ubuntu 17.10 and tried the new version of openmw, and unfortunately saw this, after turning on the water shader: http://i.imgur.com/UhOVN92.png
After searching a bit, I've found this thread, with user experiencing the very same problem: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4095 that seems to experience the same problem and that is dependency on libpng12. The newer Linux distributions sadly don't have this library in repositories any more. Is there any remedy?
libpng12 dependency
Re: libpng12 dependency
Previous reports of this issue all seem to be using the generic tar.gz release. Is this also the case here? If so, you may see better results if you install openmw from the Ubuntu ppa.

Yes, that is the case too. I prefer to use non installing releases, so I've picked up tar.gz as a first choice. Why the dependency only in the binary release though?
