Re-Goth

Post by psi29a »

OpenSource-Reimplementation of the zEngine, used by the game "Gothic"
https://github.com/REGoth-project/REGoth

we've got some video competition. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjEpN3I8Ovc

It seems we've created a trend of making release videos complete with a 'thanks for watching' at the end. ;)

yeshhh... i love it. Reminds me of going to visit my relatives in Lunen (in NRW). Getting into deep geo-poltical discussions while trying keep a straight face and drinking bitters. The more I drink the more German I understand.

Note: nicht schlimm means 'not bad' in German. In Dutch it means: Not smart (you're stupid). So you can figure how I felt when my uncle-in-law said 'nicht schlimm' when I trying to speak German.

Well, I would rather say "Nicht schlecht." or, in a more positive way, something like "Das klingt doch ganz gut." :D
I hope your relatives speak "Hochdeutsch" (standard German) -- the odds are good since they live in NRW.

If Dutch is any indication of German, then everyone has a dialect... so it doesn't matter if you're speaking "High German' or 'Generally Civilized Dutch'[1], people tend to speak their local variant. English is no better in that respect (you lot vs. ya'll vs. you all) as British idioms that are known to be insulting are typically considered positive in American English (with all due respect). ;)

You're definitely right but I, while not being from there, know how some NRW dialects sound -- which is why I hope your relatives use a more "standard" German. It increases the chance that others understand what you're trying to say.
Having that said, Foreigners learning German with a strong dialect are really funny to listen to.

(Don't take that too seriously though. I just meet many people with German as a second language.)

Okay, back to topic:

I really liked Gothic II (and, to some extent and only after the fan patches, Gothic 3). The world-building and story-telling was amazing. So, everyone reviving the old Gothic feelings is a hero!

Ah, I remember long time ago in Russia was big wars Morrowind vs Gothic 1/2. Personally I like both, they are different games with compleatly different vision of RPG. I know Gothic community here kinda alive, not as active as Morrowind one, but still - giant mods like returning 2.0, where modders even finded original voice actors of russian version to voicing new dialogs (and now we remember oblivion, where sometimes NPCs had different voices for different phrases...) is really cool, and I hope reGoth will make new boost of Gothic popularity.
Personally what I want is ability to compleatly remade controls, in Gothic 1-2 for me controlls feels like this is bad port from consoles :D And on modern machines Gothic run not so god like morrowind, so reGoth is awesome.

This is really interesting. I tried to get into Gothic like ten, twelve years ago or something like that. I remember the controls were horrible. Maybe this could fix that eventually. :) Will follow this.

It's a shame though that the Xoreos project seems kind of dead. KotOR is one of my favorite games of all time, and when I wanted to introduce it to my wife's 17 year old little brother, I noticed that Windows 10 has broken it. Can't get the game to run at all on his computer. Xoreos could have been a solution if it was more developed.

KotOR aesome game but I not very like it because it broke classic old republic style and add some silly things to universe, but yeah, it was and is really good game
