OSG ShadowMap

I came across this:

Now we all know I'm quite the nooby programmer, but implementing ShadowMap doesn't seem too complicated. I know once you stack our light and shader systems onto this it won't be as trivial, but I wanted to ask if anyone has given this a shot?

But they will be implemented in 1.0 version? Right?

I assume shadows are supposed to be in 1.0, because the idea is to have all the features of the original engine, but I have no idea if it would be done using this method or not.

I don't use anymore graphical mods (meshes and texture), only interested in gameplay mods, but without shadows the game really looks flat. :(
