Could we have some mod compilations?

Post by Nivim »

Someone came into the #openmw channel today, asking various questions, and brought up something that I've been curious about; we have a bare-bones page listing mods that work or don't with OpenMW, but we don't have anything going "yes, all these mods work, are straightforward, and are popular, you can just grab them all to skip Playing Modding so you can Play Morrowind" like I've seen in other places. Now, this isn't something I'm interested in, but I know a lot of potential players would be very interested indeed, if the download counts for similar things are any measure.

If we were to put together a Mod Collection or two, what would go in them? Where would they go? Are we allowed to host a zip file or should we make something that can cURL all the appropriate files?

Not really I subject I know, but as I said, it will probably be important-- perhaps especially to those of you interested in Outreach here.

Nothing stopping anyone from making a mod compilation tailored to OpenMW. Just remember to ask mod author´s permission.

You could upload it to Fliggerty´s, Nexus or somewhere like that. Then make a thread that includes the link to the download. Maybe the admins here might even sticky it.

A guy made this guide recently :

http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Morrowind

It's clearly tailored for Vanilla Morrowind (because Code patch and MGE), but I think it would not be difficult to adapt to OpenMW

Hi, I'll make a OpenMW-tailored version of it soon. I use OpenMW on my Mac, currently testing mods ;)

I think this is a very good idea.

I guess these retextures use fake bump mapping which OpenMW doesn't (obviously) support since it has a properly built-in one.

I think the solid gold bed and the chests with mithril trimming do look pretty fetching, Having every single boulder and tree glow like a supernova might be a tad annoying... not annoying enough to reinstall the game though.
