Wiki SEO

Post by scrawl »

I've noticed that our wiki pages have a really bad or nonexistent SEO ranking. For example, if I search Bing or DuckDuckGo for 'OpenMW Native Mesh Format' trying to get to https://wiki.openmw.org/index.php?title ... esh_Format , that page is not even included the results.

Could this line in https://wiki.openmw.org/robots.txt be causing the problem?

Hi,
yes, it's most probably caused by that line - few months ago BingBot was behaving very strange by continuously indexing/accessing screenshots page, so I've blocked it. I'll remove that line, maybe its behavior is fixed now.

We noticed similar behavior from Bing at Tamriel Rebuilt as well. Continuously indexing the old forum archive, and slowing the site to a crawl on its old infrastructure, as well as causing out of memory conditions with the database engine. I recently unblocked it there after the infrastructure moves were completed.

FYI: (At least) Bing, DuckDuckGo, and Ecosia are still not listing our Wiki in the results of the OP's search enquiry or any other Wiki-related enquiry.
