English weekly news translation

Post by lgromanowski »

Hi,
I will appreciate if someone with native English could check and correct following translation (it's a bit hard to translate SH writing style to English, but I tried to do my best):
Let's open terminal window, and let's go to the OpenMW directory. Run git pull, and now git log -- we'll see what our developers in the sweat of theirs brow coded. Oh, no! There are no commits this week! How is this possible? Does some cataclysm caught us? Does work on OpenMW was stopped?

Of course not, we just didn't managed to complete the work on any new feature this week, but this doesn't mean that we laze.

At first, and I think most important thing: for our Slavic brothers which are using Cyrillic alphabet -- Greye was working on improved support for characters from outside of UTF-8 character set (mostly the ones which aren't boring variations on Latin alphabet). This should improve and facilitate the fun of OpenMW not only for Russians, Ukrainians, and Belorussians, but also Asian nations -- perhaps, at the end, we manage to break away Japanese from playing in Final Fantasy?

Pvdk introduced displaying of OpenMW version in the launcher, but wait -- it's not only a version number but also a git hash. It's harder to get better accuracy. Even if someone will start complain about it - please bear in mind that for Linux users it's quite simple to get and compile OpenMW sources, but for Windows users this is a bit different. They're mostly using pre-compiled binaries (Ace's nightly builds) and probably they'll warmly welcome such version indicator.

How about Scrawl? Scrawl is commonly known for being the main point of each weekly news. This time he's focused on saving feature. As SirHerrbatka mentioned in the last weekly news, there's still lot of work to do in that feature, and it's good that Scrawl is working on this. It's hoped that OpenMW 0.29 version will be enriched with relatively complete functionality of loading and saving the state of the game.

OpenCS also growing - it'll be possible to clone records soon. Also, Graffy introduced significant changes to the file selection window of the game.

My take. Did some re-interpretation here and there, as some phrases are just clunky in english.

Hi,
would someone with native English check and correct following translation, please?
Nature films, and more.

In the past week Scrawl solved a lot of bugs, and also put
a significant contribution to the saving and loading the state
of the game GUI. As if that were not enough, he also began to work on
the service ranged weapons.

Meanwhile Zini dealt with improvements in the field of scripting.
There is a new feature in the scripts compiler: "warning mode",
which should print a warning if compiler find any mistake in script
─ undoubtedly useful function.

OpenMW also supports scripts faithful to the original engine ─ which,
unfortunately, means that we're moving into the area of the absurd known
from original Morrowind. To keep your minds clear and not contaminated
with Bethesda insanity from more than a decade, I'll skip the details.

Last changes to character animation looks really interesting. At the moment
of writing this post they weren't included in the main branch, but it's evident
that MrCheko improved many aspects of game-play related with animations.

For a long time there wasn't any funny videos featuring bugs on the blog
─ and yet it's precisely what we all love. Anyway, here's another day
in the life of nature and the inhabitants of the province of Morrowind...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8ZN2NMdKmk

Here, we can see extremely difficult to register, netch's mating dance.
Excited male against female demonstrates its efficiency. The natives are
motionless to avoid aggressive behaviour of animals.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBREgWpPHLU

Dark Elves are known for their peculiar, heretical religion. On the worship
consists of many complex rituals, and an integral and inalienable part of many
among them are repeated prostrations.

Here, we see yet another, mysterious ritual whose meaning remains unknown to us.

Also, this post makes me want to make a bug compilation video featuring whispered BBC nature style commentaries.
