I think this might have serious efficiency issues... definitely not a Free Lunch.

Here is a screenshot of my desktop. Using MATE 1.6 on Ubuntu 12.04 (planning to switch distributions at some point, not sure when). Theme is based on Ubuntu themes for LXDE and XFCE.
