Re: Benchmarks / Hardware Specs

tl;dr shadows/reflections are expensive, and there's only so much the engine can do without remaking every model in the game, but there are improvements coming down the wire. Install Morrowind Optimization Patch and Project Atlas for fps gain. Technical explanation follows: Morrowind is notoriously ...

Re: Swimming without diving. Feedback required.

This looks good. I don't think later Bethesda games had special handling for this (will check later) but it wasn't great, and this seems like an improvement without fundamentally changing the swim mechanic. I'd need to try it for myself to be sure, of course... ;) The "water cut" feature c...

Re: OpenMW 0.47.0

Yes, this is something TR listed as a "killer feature" that may compel them to become OpenMW-exclusive, because the benefits are so great. But whether it could, or should, work as in later Bethesda games is uncertain. Would resampling 8192x8192 cells in such a ways that we get to 4096x4096...

Re: OpenMW 0.47.0

Aside from doing what Bethesda did (which is as likely as not), if someone knows any relevant alternatives in the wild that allow multiple water heights in the worldspace, post it here. :)

Re: Shadow edges softening

Seriously though, we have a mostly working soft shadows MR that, hopefully, is only temporarily closed. It's absolutely within reach, if the relevant know-how is developed to fill the remaining gaps.

Re: OpenMW 0.47.0

Per-cell water levels make a lot more sense in Oblivion, Fallout and Skyrim, where cells are 4096x4096 in size. It's impossible to recreate the same landscape with 8192x8192 cells. Perhaps something more sophisticated is needed, like water volumes independent from cells, so that landscaping is not h...

Re: Shadow edges softening

It's on the tracker, and substantial progress was made on it. Hopefully it can be picked up again before the next main release, as it looks very, very cool in game.

Re: Application with a new feature: ptmikheev

I suppose you could look to other games for item picking, like Zelda Breath of the Wild. In that game, picking an item will play a subtle grab-air-and-pocket-it animation (where possible) without impeding player movement in any way. I think holding down a key or button to view your character from th...

Re: MGE XE with OpenMW

That's right, MGE XE doesn't work with OpenMW, because it's not a mod but an engine hack for morrowind.exe, and OpenMW is a completely different engine. This means that you can't get the exact same visuals with OpenMW that you could with MGE XE, but there are many similar features "built in&quo...
