Re: Recent Negativity Regarding OpenMW
Sarcasm aside, i don't think TES3MP is any kind of solution right now. That people are even suggesting 'use a fork for [complicated feature that requires always online] because we froze the script system essentially forever and can't be bothered to patch to full (or partial) compatibility with exist...

Re: Recent Negativity Regarding OpenMW
It doesn't need to be "another 10 years." There's a perfectly fine Lua scripting system for OpenMW that you can use right now, and it even works in multiplayer. According to the lead MWSE developer, it's pretty good . If it gets cleaned up a bit and merged into OpenMW, that skips your ima...

Re: Recent Negativity Regarding OpenMW
I see that list and can only think 'but completely broken mods with (real case) books that only allow themselves to moved after they're read is completely fine, or at least for the other 2 to 10 years that it will take to reach 1.0'... So apparently getting questions asked about fucking MWScript fun...

Re: Recent Negativity Regarding OpenMW
'severside and clientside' scripts? I guess if you're going to completely break everything to be able to support several players interacting with the world at the same time, you'd need to break nearly all of the original scripts and then you wouldn't worry to excess about the 'backwards compatibili...

Re: Recent Negativity Regarding OpenMW
No 'morrowind engine' function is written in MWScript in openmw come on. I didn't say they were. MWScript functions are, however, implemented in (C++) code. When Lua is implemented, its functions need to be implemented in (C++) code. The (C++) code implementing MWScript functions will then be dropp...

Re: Recent Negativity Regarding OpenMW
I feel like i'm on the matrix taking the red pill. What does a fork for netplay has to do with making mods for the single player game with fixed new functions? 'severside and clientside' scripts? I guess if you're going to completely break everything to be able to support several players interacting...

Re: Recent Negativity Regarding OpenMW
And this is bad when the 'work' is something you'll have to implement later Not necessarily. The whole point of an extended scripting language is to provide lower-level features. The devs may not have to implement a fixed OnActivate because a script written in Lua could avoid the issue altogether. ...

Re: Recent Negativity Regarding OpenMW
more insanity. What's this idea fixe that LUA will have anything to do with mwscript extensions? Just because LUA will be saner doesn't excuse refusing to deal with insanity now. As I said, everything added to mwscript now needs to be maintained indefinitely. And when Lua is implemented, it's more ...

Re: Recent Negativity Regarding OpenMW
Feature creep my ass. You're having feature creep right now when people waste dozens of man hours agonizing about 'snell's windows' on their physics accurate water shader (i honestly deleted my rant about it on github, because, hey not my business how someone wants to spend hours coding for free). T...

Re: Recent Negativity Regarding OpenMW
However, there are very many issues like this. Quite a few issues turn up where people suggest to just add a function to MWScript, and (mostly) everyone thinks their suggestion is the one important thing to make an exception for. But if the devs keep doing that everytime someone suggests it, where ...
