Re: Splash screens
Not sure why legality is an issue that's being discussed... Bethesda is well aware of this project, they have been for some time. If they ever thought it would infringe on some sort of copyright they could/would have acted a long time ago. Hell, Gstaff responded himself when asked about formulas ir...

Re: Splash screens
Wait, can we make mods for OpenMW that can't be used in Morrowind that *don't* distribute any Morrowind assets? Maybe I'm dense, but why not? Isn't that what the example suite is, in a way? If the example suite uses some feature present in OpenMW that wasn't in Morrowind (different scripting langua...

Re: Splash screens
I'm not a lawyer, but i play one on the internet: You just described an obvious copyright violation. Either the moderator doesn't understand licensing and copyright, or beth waived their copyright (or gave you an implicit license to distribute). That statement has been reiterated multiple times bot...

Re: Splash screens
Well I have made a mod in wich I distribute ALL vanilla textures. Talked to a moderator (who actually got in touch with me because he was curious why I have taken down the mod) and he couldnt see the problem. There is not problem at all with distributing Morrowind assets in a Morrowind mod , its be...

Re: Mod packaging and repositories
Debian repos would work because they use HTTP for downloads if I remember correctly. You can browse the mirrors with any browser since their contents are indexed. I've written something up and I'll post a detailed thread this evening. You can set up your own private .deb repository too, especially ...

Re: News has many many many typos
I look forward to sirherrbatka weekly updates, and I never felt they detracted from the professionalism of the project. In fact, historically, I have found them to be quite professional. Release announcments are professional statements, wierdsexy's videos are done professionally (he tries to walk th...

Re: OpenMW PPA full of treasures
both projects look awesome, and both would be great for Debian/Ubuntu. My plate is full at the moment too, but they look very interesting. Maybe I can try packaging those in a few weeks. How things normally work is that the software is packaged into Debian, and Ubuntu pulls from debian. It's somewha...

Re: Mod packaging and repositories
As far as I know if no license is supplied you can do whatever the hell you want since there's no grounds for legal action. Speaking as someone who's studied copyright, I can confirm that this is absolutely untrue. In most jurisdictions, not specifying copyright is keeping all rights reserved. Ther...

Re: Mod packaging and repositories
As far as I know if no license is supplied you can do whatever the hell you want since there's no grounds for legal action. Metadata licenses are a good idea however, if only for visibility and not cluttering the folder with text files. That is not true, and it is very important. If no license is s...

Re: Mod packaging and repositories
I think the idea is if effort is going to go towards getting directory layouts/file formates under control, you might as well try getting licensing under control. Licensing is so important, and many mod devs just don't know it exists or understand how it can help their mods.
