Actually Daggerfall used the in-house engine XnGine and they were planning to use it for Morrowind as well until they decided that it was too dated to fix, given the scope of the project, so they switched over to NetImmerse/Gamebryo.

I've got something resembling a before/after shot in the same frame due to a bug.

I think the maps stop getting applied after I wander around for a while. Maybe video memory runs out or something.

Wait, wait... you can compile, study or use it. You cannot distribute the compiled form. You have to distribute the code form. If you are referring to the GPL, there is no restriction on distributing the compiled form, as long as you make the source code available. But perhaps it does not work. How...

But still you can state that the COMPILED and ready to use program can distributed only by you for a fee. I'm pretty sure you can't do that with the GPL. Software that cannot be legally compiled is not Free Software according to the definition since it conflicts with Freedom 1: The freedom to study...

The main reason that I can see, that commercial game companies do not use open source game engines is that the best engines tend to be proprietary since their development is funded by a company, and I don't see how changing the licensing of OpenMW would automatically make it a better engine.
