I think gmail gives bounce back messages when you email a nonexistent address, so it shouldn't be too hard to test which of those is real (provided no one's made the other one, either as part of the project, or because they wanted to impersonate the project or thought it sounded cool).

In my experience, LaTeX is a lot easier in TeXstudio than anything else I've tried, as it has really good error correction, so you can write something resembling what you want, and get a load of errors, but still end up with the output you intended.
