Re: Greyed out dialogue options

The engine could run the dialogue command in a sandbox and compare it to the previously-seen versions of it. Also, if it contains unique hyperlinks like joining a guild, or it contains inventory changes like taking or giving items, or anything funny like that, it wouldn't be grayed out, even if it's...

Re: Resting outside is nearly always interrupted

How wrong it behaves has nothing to do with wherever the algorithm came from. It's hard (as in strictly speaking) reverse engineering. It's not bullshit. It has its form for a reason, even if it's not right. The fact that it's wrong doesn't mean that we need to come up with anything that seems to be...

Re: Resting outside is nearly always interrupted

Or one could just reverse engineer the game like they have been.

The existing implementation wasn't pulled out of thin air.

Re: Resting outside is nearly always interrupted

It's around 25% on 24 hours. It's less likely at 1 hour, but can still happen. Normally I'd be in favor of fixing obvious bugs, not morrowind doesn't exactly have a comprehensive design document, and even if it does, Hard Numeric Mechanics like this have to be replicated exactly. Except for pickpock...

Re: Resting outside is nearly always interrupted

OpenMW's 1.0 goal is to replicate vanilla gameplay as exactly as is possible, so we should at least get this right. A hotpatch might put off getting it right until later.

Re: Resting outside is nearly always interrupted

In vanilla morrowind (with a mod to change the one setting): I set fSleepRandMod to 1 and it seems to make it so that all sleep times above a certain value (right around 4, sorry, forgot the exact one) always result in an encounter, and ones below it do not. (Note: when I first loaded, the RNG seeme...

Re: Resting outside is nearly always interrupted

Wouldn't that force you to get attacked for 1hr intervals?

It's already known that you can get attacked for 1hr intervals. So whatever rounding there needs to allow for that to happen, otherwise something's wrong.

Re: contribute information to wiki/mod status

Debian has "desert island"-style software guidelines. However, I'm still interested in their specific logic behind including unace if it's not in the nonfree repository as was being implied by calling it surprising.

Re: Greyed out dialogue options

Definitely something I want to see. I'd do it if an mingw-based openmw dev environment were rational to set up on windows. Alas, it is not.
