It does happen in vanilla also. So I guess there is no need to worry about this.

Creatures mimicking player/NPC behavior.
Is it normal for creatures to shield their eyes during ash/blight storms just like the player character or other NPCs? Even skeletons exhibited this without any eyes to shield. This happened with both summoned creatures and creatures already present in the game world. (Used latest nightly).
