If they're .cab files, cabextract should work.

Definitely. One of the things I miss from my old Windows install of Morrowind was an FPS optimizer addon that would dynamically adjust view distance depending on framerate. Any time I pass through Old Ebonheart I find myself wishing OpenMW had that.

That doesn't sound right at all. To be clear, you've successfully installed the data files and started a game, and you're, what, stuck on the ship unable to move? Nightlies have been broken for me since like June, because they link to a newer version of libBulletDynamics than is present in my distro, and the nightly doesn't ship with a copy in its libs folder.
