This is probably not the issue, but what VM are you using? If it's Virtualbox, have you enabled 3d acceleration passthrough? I can't find any documentation on it but should be in the display settings for the VM.

What's the performance difference when initializing an unordered_map, and is that ever done during runtime? I'm not an expert on the standard library, but initializing a hashtable should be farrrr slower than initializing a tree (I guess unless the entire set of data is initialized at the same time?...
