The first of July nightly should have my recent change in it, so it's likely that's what's causing the problem.
No, it doesn't, the change was merged later that day, not in the morning.

You must choose a folder where a Data Files folder (spelled exactly like that) and Morrowind.ini are present.

If anyone's curious I think I've fixed the issue with companions attacking air here, so you won't need to install patches to work around that.

It will always be a separate mod (or models that use the supported format) because assets can't be merged into an engine, it's just nonsensical.

1. tx_ebony_mail_d.dds is the diffuse map. It doesn't need to be renamed at all and contains baked AO and fake specular highlights, so it's unsuitable for PBR. But you should leave it alone.
