Re: Measuring Frame-Time in OpenMW

It's the same for me also. I turned up the on-screen display zoom in Rivatuner to compensate, but don't know of a proper solution. Still, at least it works; I can't get the OSD to show up in Skyrim Special Edition at all.

Re: Measuring Frame-Time in OpenMW

I had a feeling external tools may be adequate, which is why I placed this topic in general discussion instead of feature requests. It looks like MSI Afterburner has been mentioned once or twice in the forum history, but not about its frametime functionality. I'll download it and see how the graph l...

Measuring Frame-Time in OpenMW

Some gaming enthusiast channels like Digital Foundry make use of a frame-timer to measure a game's performance. Here is an example from their Morrowind Xbox One X analysis earlier this year: https://s22.postimg.cc/hp7n14s3z/morrowind_digital_foundry_frame_time.png Something like this would be very u...

Re: Water shaders, OpenMW vs MGEXE

This reminds me that Skyrim Special Edition has a flow-based water shader for rivers, which blend into the sea and even numerous adjoining currents quite nicely.

Re: Water shaders, OpenMW vs MGEXE

I just remembered that at least part of the ripple shader effect (or a reasonable facsimile) was implemented in pre-OSG versions: https://youtu.be/QhdSOGlHjqc?t=90
Examining its implementation could be useful to any future takers - or maybe not, given the engine changes since then.

Hmm. Works on my machine. Using Windows 7 in this case. Wonder why the difference.

Re: Water shaders, OpenMW vs MGEXE

How do you mean? Anything that helps improve OpenMW is appreciated. ;) Yeah, I mean, it sure looks good to me. But given this is a document from 2002, I have no idea how applicable the ideas discussed in the nVidia talk are to the modern OpenMW. I was just curious to know whether something that loo...

Re: Water shaders, OpenMW vs MGEXE

There are actually a nVidia talk about how the water rendering in Morrowind is done, apparently it's one of the very first games with hardware-accelerated water rendering using generated textures / normal maps. http://developer.download.nvidia.com/assets/gamedev/docs/gdc2002_ProcTextureAnim.pdf in ...

Re: OpenMW Nightly builds

I'm getting bug #4234 in the 0.44.0 rc2 and latest nightlies. If I understand correctly, updating OpenAL Soft to 1.18.2 or higher in the package manager should resolve it.

Re: Water shaders, OpenMW vs MGEXE

I think OpenMW's water normals compare favorably to the default MGEXE, but the latter swaps out the water plane for an undulating mesh so looks more impressive overall. It also has underwater caustics and light shafts which make it more lively. All of these things (and more besides) were listed as f...
